Relationships, Diversity and Inclusion - Year 3

Teach Year 3 students to strengthen relationships, value diverse contributions and plan practical ways to include others. This Health unit uses fictional cases, explicit modelling, safe rehearsals and evidence-based reflection.

Students notice barriers in rules and activities, practise listening, invitation and negotiation, then refine an action using feedback. They explain how a feasible inclusion change may support belonging or wellbeing and plan a respectful way to check its effect. The assessment brings together a demonstrated relationship skill and a reasoned inclusion proposal.

Eight core 50-minute lessons complete the essential teaching and assessment. Two additional 50-minute lessons offer optional reinforcement through a small inclusion audit and a cooperative discussion game. Each of the ten lessons has its own complete editable PowerPoint. All required assessment evidence is completed within Lessons 1-8.

Tasks allow spoken, drawn, written, pointed, selected, supported, dictated or demonstrated responses. Students can practise privately with a teacher or with a willing partner. The resources use fictional situations and do not require personal identity, culture, family or health disclosure. Communication support does not lower the achievement expectation.

Teacher benefits

Timed lesson plans map to the exact presentation filenames. Shared fictional cases connect practice, feedback and assessment. Matching sample answers and specific game criteria support consistent feedback. Response choices and the rubric focus on learning rather than handwriting, confidence or speech fluency.

Learning focus and classroom use

Select listening, invitation and negotiation skills for a safe shared decision. Use specific feedback to improve an action. Locate barriers in a rule or activity, propose an access change, explain a likely benefit and seek missing perspectives before deciding it worked for all. Use the eight core lessons for the complete teaching and assessment route. Optional Lessons 9-10 apply familiar ideas without adding required assessment.
