Reading Country and Community in Bindi - Year 5 Unit Plan
This Year 5 English analysis unit accompanies a lawful classroom reading of Bindi by Kirli Saunders, illustrated by Dub Leffler. Across five lessons, students learn to separate a publisher-backed context fact from a detail they actually observe in the verse novel, then explain how the fact may help account for that detail. The learning focus stays on Bindi's Gundungurra Country setting, local conditions, community response and verse perspective. The sequence ends with three independently justified context-to-text connections.
