Build confident, independent proofreaders with a clear COPS routine: Capitals, Organisation, Punctuation and Spelling. This Year 5 English unit combines explicit whole-class teaching with worked examples, collaborative sorting, a board game, focused printable practice, assessment and review.

Students learn where proofreading fits in the writing process, how to check one category at a time, how to use proofreading marks and how to explain corrections without changing a writer’s intended meaning. Matched answer pages show corrections in red for efficient marking and discussion.
