Precise Verbs in Factual Writing - Year 6
Pupils learn to make factual writing clear without inventing information. Original Class Materials Desk and Paper Collection records support modelling, verb comparisons, tense/time work and whole-report editing. The Editor’s Evidence Desk then asks each pupil to justify four choices before writing an individual Reading Corner report. A separate Class Card Exchange record provides fresh analysis, repair, composition and explanation tasks for assessment.
Every required source fact is supplied. Teaching distinguishes current state, routine, ongoing and earlier completed events, and scheduled future time. Pupils explain how a whole detail contributes meaning and when an extra word should be left out.

- Explain useful manner, place, time, frequency and degree details in context.
- Repair and compose coherent factual texts without changing the source.
- Explain individual language choices using evidence.
Classroom use
1. Name the action accurately.
2. Show when an action happened and whether it was finished.
3. Add useful detail and edit a whole report.
4. Justify editing decisions, then write an individual factual paragraph.
5. Transfer learning to a fresh report through analysis, repair, composition and explanations.
Five lessons of approximately 55 minutes. Supplied pages/cases, pencil/highlighter and optional projection or typing are sufficient; no real collecting activity or external book knowledge is required. Separate pupil pages from red-answer pages before independent work.
Resource content
Three reference displays; Class Materials Desk and Class Paper Collection source records; complete factual reports and deliberately flawed editing stimuli; a meaning/time mat; support, core and extension practice for action choices, time choices and useful details; twelve Action and Time Checks with full checkers; sixteen Editor’s Evidence Desk cases with instructions and a worked turn; a four-decision record; an individual Reading Corner report and revision sequence; reflection and actual support records; fresh Class Card Exchange source, analysis, repair, composition and explanation tasks; a four-criterion analytic rubric and scored example.
Access
Support, core and extension practice is supplied for the first three lessons. Read-aloud source access, oral rehearsal, typing and recording the pupil’s own words can support participation. Record actual help, including any supplied language choices. Handwriting speed, performance and real-book knowledge are outside the assessment criteria.
Formats and answers
Unit Plan PDF: 86 pages; 74 resource pages include pupil tasks, source displays, activity cases, matched red answers, models and rubric materials.
Presentation PPTX: 27 editable slides. Quiz PPTX: 22 editable slides, with ten question/answer pairs.
Preview PDF: 135 pages, fully watermarked after the clean contents cover. Table of Contents: JPEG. Three listing files: TXT.
Matched teacher answer pages follow their pupil pages. Red answers include complete sentences and reasons; teacher models accept other grammatical, source-faithful responses. The fresh pupil report stays unmarked. The rubric considers precise action, tense/time, useful detail and integrated revision/composition, using actual evidence and recorded support.
Teacher benefits
All source facts are supplied; teachers can trace language choices to evidence. Support/core/extension practice supports gradual independence. The fresh assessment checks transfer, and the rubric separates four areas of writing with recorded support.
Digital product and licence

Editable teacher assembly and thumbnail working files are not included in the customer package. For the purchaser’s own classroom use; do not redistribute, resell or post the complete files publicly.
