Our School Science Museum - Foundation
Children group pictures of living things by visible external features, compare safe material samples for a museum purpose, and observe how shapes move on a low ramp. They ask questions, make predictions, record actual observations, compare repeated results and explain how evidence supports a choice. The class curates three exhibits: living features, materials and movement.
What's included
- Ten separate editable lesson PowerPoints, with 10 slides each (100 lesson slides).
- One separate editable 24-slide quiz: ten questions with answer slides, joining-in instructions, reflection and closing.
- A 47-page Unit Plan PDF with ten timed teacher plans, a compact eight-session route, preparation and access guidance, two colour displays, two case-card pages, a three-page Evidence Trail game, ten black-and-white worksheets with ten matched red sample-answer pages, quiz guidance, two assessment pages and an anchored rubric.
- A clean Table of Contents JPEG.
- A 171-page watermarked Preview PDF showing the full 47-page pack, all ten lesson decks in order, then the quiz.
- Separate TPT, Etsy and Website listing-copy text files.
Learning focus
- Describe and group organisms by visible external features while distinguishing a living thing from its picture or toy representation.
- Connect a tested material property to a particular museum job, then consider a new firm-support purpose.
- Predict and describe movement, keep a comparison consistent, repeat and retain actual results.
- Explain a claim using the relevant record, compare a prediction with an observation, and ask a useful next question.
Classroom use
Choose ten 60-minute lessons, or follow the supplied eight-session route. The compact route combines lessons 02+03 and 09+10 using selected teaching and task slides; all essential exhibit and assessment evidence is gathered by the end of session eight. The quiz supports the practical assessment. It does not replace individual observation records.
Use school-approved plants or the supplied organism pictures; leave wildlife undisturbed. Water tests use equal-size safe paper and plastic samples, identical dry cards, five drops and a one-minute wait. Movement tests use large objects, a stable low ramp, the same release line and a soft barrier. An adult prepares and supervises the activities. Results are recorded after testing; red answer pages show illustrative examples or response criteria, and actual results may differ.
Differentiation and Assessment:
Prompts can be read aloud. Learners may speak, point, draw, choose a picture, use a communication board or device, dictate, or share a recording. Support, core and extension choices retain the same science thinking. Assess reasoning and evidence rather than handwriting or public-speaking confidence.
The three-exhibit organiser, teacher evidence conference and four-dimension rubric record individual understanding, evidence/process, explanation/application and reflection/responsibility. A new material-support task and changed grouping rule check transfer.
Lesson Sequence:
01. Museum questions
02. Specimen detectives
03. Explain the grouping
04. Choose a display material
05. Evidence changes choices
06. Move the museum parcel
07. Check the comparison
08. Curate three exhibits
09. Museum demonstration
10. Scientists share ideas

Answers
Ten matched red worksheet sample-answer pages, Evidence Trail teacher key and quiz answer slides. Practical examples are illustrative; use actual learner observations.
Teacher benefits
- A clear ten-lesson sequence with a practical compact route.
- Separate editable lesson decks for flexible classroom pacing.
- Matched examples and criteria that keep genuine observations distinct from sample answers.
- Individual assessment evidence with several ways for learners to communicate.
Digital product and licence
