Online Texts Year 4 Unit
Teach students to read online information with purpose. The Online Texts Year 4 Unit develops the language and reading strategies students need to identify webpage features, follow navigation pathways and explain how design choices improve readability.
Through fresh fictional webpages and practical classroom tasks, students work with headlines, subheadings, navigation bars, drop-down menus, links, buttons, graphics, captions, layout, home pages and subpages. They learn a simple SEARCH–SCAN–SELECT–CHECK routine, compare online and printed texts, and justify which format or pathway best suits a reading purpose.
The unit provides a coherent five-lesson sequence. Teachers can introduce concepts with the editable presentation and colour displays, consolidate learning with the Website Feature Match activity and Navigation Quest game, use seven worksheet pages for guided or independent practice, and assess understanding with the editable quiz, two-page audit and five-level rubric.
