One Theme, Two Narrative Voices — Year 6 English Unit
Two stories can share a dilemma yet leave readers with different understandings. In this unit, students read two complete original stories about returning a lost notebook and compare the narrator's access to each character. They distinguish topic from theme, use details from both texts, explain what each voice reveals or withholds, and develop a defensible interpretation rather than a plot-only comparison.
Five lessons move from modelling and guided choices to partner discussion, a fresh green-scarf rehearsal case and an independent silver-badge comparison. The teacher guide gives lesson steps, equipment and support, core and extension routes. Six matching answer or marking pages and a criterion-based rubric help with specific feedback.
