Across five lessons, students learn to record the starting number first, apply a named addition or subtraction step, ask whether the target number of values has been recorded, and follow the YES-stop or NO-repeat path. They distinguish five recorded values from five additions after the start, repair ambiguous instructions, test a partner's rule, and explain a generated pattern. The assessment asks them to trace two algorithms and write one that another learner can reproduce.
