Listen, Ask and Find Out - Year 3
Build purposeful listening and speaking with fictional classroom maker profiles. Speakers keep their cards private, so listeners must use the reply they hear to find useful information. Children learn the difference between a broad starter and a linked follow-up, check an unclear word or number, repair a mistaken record, and give a short summary that a partner can verify.
The five lessons include clear modelling, guided and independent exchanges, support/core/extension options, observation prompts and next teaching actions. A complete four-round Information Hunt lets both partners practise the speaker and listener roles. Fresh Gio and Hana profiles support a final observed partner interview, with a learner record, teacher observation sheet and analytic interaction rubric. Teachers can adjust the 50-minute lesson timings and schedule additional observations when required.

Learning focus
Listen for information relevant to a purpose; contribute accurate facts; link a question or reply to the preceding contribution; clarify an uncertain detail; check and correct a note; give an accurate short summary; exchange both roles.
Classroom use
Whole-class modelling followed by paired practice and individual observation. Keep speaker cards hidden from listeners and reserve the two fresh assessment profiles for the final interview. Capture each learner's own words, selected messages, corrections and summary. The quiz supports retrieval of taught decisions; it does not replace observation. Private read-aloud, message choices, communication tools and scribing can support access while learners choose relevant responses. Record the support used and plan the next teaching step from actual evidence.
Teacher benefits
A coherent five-lesson sequence; a complete playable information-gap activity; matching examples for marking; supported/core/extension practice; fresh interview profiles; records that link evidence to the next teaching action.
