Investigating and Interpreting Data – Year 6
Investigating and Interpreting Data gives Year 6 students a practical framework for asking statistical questions, collecting fair data and communicating evidence responsibly. Students identify variable types, distinguish primary and secondary data, plan representative samples, choose useful displays and compare distributions using mode, range, shape, clusters, gaps and outliers.
The unit also develops critical data literacy. Students examine how sampling, axis choices, omissions and overgeneralised conclusions can influence statistical arguments, then learn to separate a claim from its evidence and rewrite conclusions so the population, context and limitations are clear.
