How Persuasive Texts Influence Readers - Year 6
Help students explain how the order of ideas and precise words work together for a reader. Two mentor pairs present a library proposal and a repair-and-reuse proposal in print and static offline formats. Students identify audience and purpose, quote evidence, connect structural choices with language and reader effects, compare formats for a stated task and recognise the limits of a claim.
The complete teaching sequence includes explicit modelling, guided comparison, differentiated practice and practical partner tasks. A new board-game text pair supports independent transfer assessment. The four-criterion rubric requires secure evidence across every criterion, including at least two complete accurate connections.

Learning focus
Audience and purpose; paragraph sequence and section headings; precise quotations; direct address, invitations, modality and commands; plausible reader effects; evidence qualifications; task-specific format comparison and trade-offs.
Classroom use
Five planned 55-minute lessons, with flexible follow-up time. Read the complete passages aloud, model a position–words–reader-effect connection, then keep both texts available for practice. Choose the differentiated sheet suited to the student's current reading access. Use the practical cards for evidence-based discussion. Assess with the new text pair and record a next teaching step using the rubric.
Access options include numbered chunks, evidence banks, response stems and spoken, pointed, typed or written responses. An adult can faithfully record reasoning. No internet or real campaign, sign-up or repair activity is needed.
