Generate Rational Patterns - Year 6
Start with a clear model of a stored rational value. Students record, update and test an explicit count or threshold rule. They trace how a 0.25 update creates a pattern and explain why a boundary value is included or the next candidate is rejected. The sequence moves through guided practice, independent traces, a partner repair game, rehearsal and an assessment of two fresh algorithms and a corrected ambiguous stop rule.
Learning focus
Students state the start, update, record order and finite stop; trace rational values accurately; test a next candidate before recording under a threshold rule; and explain the resulting pattern with evidence.
Classroom use
Five 45-60-minute lessons. Use step cards and partial traces for support. Extend by comparing stopping rules or testing a counterexample without turning the activity into an indefinite trial.
Formats and answers
Digital PDF and editable PowerPoint files. The Unit Plan PDF has 24 pages. Matching answer/marking pages accompany all five practice and rehearsal worksheets and the assessment. The presentation has 18 slides; the quiz has 26 slides.
Digital product and licence
Digital teaching resource for the purchaser's classroom use. No physical item is shipped. The supplied editable PowerPoint files let teachers adapt teaching text for their learners.
