Move into words with adjacent consonants while keeping every sound audible. Students also meet x as two sounds and practise the two common sounds of s in selected words and simple plural endings.

This set connects four short books with practical phonics work. The paired editions use the same text and matching artwork, so you can choose Black and White or Colour for the reading session. The companion returns to the sounds and spellings used in the books through guided practice, word work and connected reading and writing.

Adjacent consonants, x and simple -s endings. Blend consonant clusters, map the sounds in x, and compare s and z sounds in familiar words.

Using the readers

Introduce the focus spellings and any words needing support. Model sounding out and blending, read a book together, then revisit it for accurate, smoother reading and discussion. Use the companion to link spoken sounds, written spellings and meaning. Support the activity directions as needed.

Use after Foundation Sets 01-06 in this progression and explicit teaching of the current focus. Match placement to the sounds, spellings and supported words the student has been taught.
