Foundation CVC Words and Short Vowels Bundle | 3 Phonics Units

Build secure CVC reading and spelling through three distinct Foundation phonics units. Children segment spoken words, map taught graphemes, blend complete print, hear short-vowel contrasts and apply the same process in meaningful labels, captions and little stories.

THE THREE INCLUDED UNITS

1. Build a CVC Word: move one counter for each phoneme, map all three positions, blend, cover and spell. The controlled bank includes sat, pat, tap, mat, map, pan, pin, tin, tip, sit, sip and pit. Includes counter-mat display, worked model cards, read-build-cover-write practice, Word Builder partner game and independent read-and-spell assessment.

2. Middle Vowel Detectives: keep the first and final phonemes steady while changing the middle sound and grapheme. Contrast examples include mat/met, pin/pen, pat/pit/pot and cut/cot. Includes Listen to the Middle display, vowel-contrast cards, guided/core ladders, Explain the Change, Middle-Sound Detective game, short contexts and assessment.

3. CVC Words in Little Stories: blend and spell complete words in meaningful labels, captions and controlled stories. Examples include cat/mat, dog/log, hen/pen, pig/dig, sun/run and cup/mug. Includes mini-story model, example cards, labels-to-sentences practice, Read-a-Clue, Build-a-Message game, fresh-story rehearsal and reading/spelling assessment.

LEARNING FOCUS

Attend to every phoneme and grapheme; blend without adding schwa; read and spell in both directions; distinguish short-vowel changes; explain and repair a specific error; transfer accurate word reading to meaningful text. Pictures and word-family patterns are not used to guess an unknown word.
