Learning focus

Sets 01-05 develop the initial letter groups and short vowels. Set 06 introduces two-letter consonant spellings. Sets 07-10 develop adjacent consonants, x, simple -s endings, sh, ch, th, wh, qu, ng and n before k. Sets 11-12 introduce ee, ay and the two common oo sounds.

Using the readers

Each companion includes teacher guidance and practical sound, word, spelling, sentence and meaning work matched to its set. Model a task, try it together and then use student responses to choose useful practice. Reread the books for accurate decoding, phrasing and attention to meaning.

Choose books for teacher-led small groups, individual practice, targeted support or supported home reading. The paired editions let you choose a printing option while keeping the text and artwork consistent.

Readiness and placement

Start after the first two letter groups have been explicitly taught. Move through the numbered sets as students learn the required code, introducing each new focus and the words needing support before reading.
