Help students read online texts with a clear purpose. The fictional Creekside Discovery Hub gives them a complete set of practice pages for predicting destinations, locating facts and explaining how a feature helps. A twelve-mission Reader’s Route partner game builds purposeful practice. The unseen Lighthouse Learning Centre case provides a separate transfer assessment.

The unit moves beyond naming a button or choosing a large picture. Students compare headlines and grouped/scattered layouts, distinguish graphics from links, and explain how two features can work together for a reading goal. All essential facts are in the pack.

Learning focus

Recognise headlines, drop-down menus, links, graphics and layout; predict useful destinations; follow home/subpage routes; extract facts; explain feature effects using evidence; compare readability; apply the strategies to unfamiliar supplied pages.

Classroom use

Five 50-minute lessons. Print or project the practice pages and use the response sheets for individual or paired work. Menus and links are static examples: students point to a label and find the matching page. The core lessons require no student account or independent internet browsing. Lesson plans include modelling, guided/independent practice, support, extension and assessment. Keep Lighthouse for the transfer lesson. Accept other routes when supported by the supplied pages and a clear reason.

Teacher benefits

All essential practice facts supplied; purposeful navigation and explanation tasks; partner game with worked example and keys; separate unfamiliar-case transfer evidence; low-ink black-and-white response pages; access options without grading handwriting or device speed.
