Exclamation Marks is a complete Year 3 teaching unit for choosing sentence-boundary punctuation with purpose. Students compare full stops, question marks and exclamation marks before exploring how exclamation marks signal strong feeling, urgent commands or warnings, and forceful interjections.
The sequence moves from explicit teaching and oral reasoning to game-based practice, sentence editing, original writing and assessment. It also tackles overuse directly: students learn that an exclamation mark should match the intended tone, and that one mark is usually enough.
