Dreaming Soldiers Book Study English Unit - Years 3-4
Guide Years 3–4 students through a purposeful Dreaming Soldiers book study that balances explicit English teaching with thoughtful discussion and independent response. Students use evidence to make predictions, ask questions, interpret characters, understand compound words, analyse simile and personification, build text connections and write from a character’s perspective.
The historical component introduces First Nations Australian service with care and specificity. Students consider volunteering despite restrictive rules, relative equality experienced by some people during service, discrimination after returning home, the value of comparing reliable sources, and the pioneering service of Gunditjmara Army officer Reginald Saunders.
The Dreaming Soldiers book is not included and is required for the complete book study.
