Data Helps Us Decide — Foundation Mathematics Unit

Which borrowed tool should a shared tray contain more of? Learners work from a given question and a fictional observation of scissors, rulers and glue sticks. They record one picture for each loan, check their sorting, compare groups and recommend a tool with a reason grounded in the record. The final assessment uses a fresh observation and asks learners to explain why one period cannot prove what will always happen.

The teacher guide sequences five 30–40-minute lessons with retrieval, modelling, guided practice, partner talk, independent work, formative checks and targeted next steps. Concrete-token and partly labelled-log support keeps the mathematical focus accessible; extension addresses duplicate/missing marks or limits without introducing formal averages.
