CVCC Words – Year 1 Unit

A complete Year 1 phonics unit for recognising, segmenting, blending, reading, spelling and manipulating CVCC words.

Teach CVCC words through a clear, classroom-ready sequence of explicit instruction, collaborative practice, independent work and assessment. Students identify the consonant-vowel-consonant-consonant spelling pattern, locate the vowel, hear and map phonemes, blend sounds to read words, spell familiar CVCC words, substitute individual sounds and build simple word families with common endings.

The unit also distinguishes final consonant blends from two-letter sound teams such as ng and ck, helping students connect spelling patterns with the sounds they hear.
