Context Changes the Story - Year 3 English Unit
Teach learners to connect a supported context change with a character’s actions and the events that follow. The unit starts with the complete garden-entry, chase and escape episode in The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Pupils identify real details, test one hypothetical community-garden boundary, explain at least three plot consequences and compare their revised outline with the original.

Learning focus
Students link a real original detail to a specific changed condition, a plausible action or event consequence, and a comparison back to the source. They distinguish a cause from merely changing a place name. More than one well-supported interpretation can pass.
Classroom use
Use the display and teacher read-aloud for the first lesson, then the low-ink evidence organisers and practice pages. Partners use the colour cards to explain and check reasoning on each turn. The fresh corridor scenario rehearses the method before independent assessment. Oral or drawn responses can reduce incidental literacy or motor demands without lowering the reasoning target.
Formats
25-page Unit Plan PDF, editable 18-slide presentation PPTX, editable 26-slide quiz PPTX, Preview PDF and Table of Contents JPEG.
