Build flexible, accurate calculation with two- and three-digit numbers. Students learn to preserve value when they partition, rearrange, regroup or make useful adjustments. They compare addition and subtraction rules, recognise valid work, repair specific errors and explain a method using the numbers involved.
What's included
- Five complete 45-minute lesson plans and one combined Teacher Quick Start page.
- Editable teaching PowerPoint: 27 slides, including value parts, separate before/after operands, a labelled count-up model, six method cards and six neutral destinations.
- Editable quiz PowerPoint: 22 slides with 10 questions, three options per question, immediate answer/feedback slides, a cover and closing slide.
- Unit Plan PDF: 58 A4 pages, including the contents page, six teacher pages and 51 resource pages.
- Six colour strategy reference/display pages.
- Nine black-and-white practice worksheets, each immediately followed by its matching red answer page: 18 pages.
- Strategy Workshop: 10 pages with colour instructions, six method cards on three sheets, two mat pages providing six combined slots, four calculation cases and teacher answers, plus a blank recording sheet and model response.
- Method Repair Workshop: seven pages with instructions, four valid/invalid colour cases and teacher guidance, plus a blank record and worked model.
- Three fresh assessment sheets with three adjacent answer pages, two blank teacher evidence records, one teacher marking guide and one blank analytic rubric: 10 pages.
- Full watermarked Preview PDF: 107 pages, showing the complete Unit Plan, teaching slides and quiz.
- A separate clean Table of Contents JPEG.
Learning focus
Students add and subtract two- and three-digit numbers without a calculator. They split and rearrange useful parts, exchange place-value groups, balance addition changes, keep a subtraction difference, count up, compare valid methods, explain their choices and check against the original numbers. The unit explicitly models subtraction through zero and a second exchange when the ones are insufficient.
Classroom use
Use the five lessons as a teaching week and select practice from the nine-sheet pool. Print and prepare the supplied cards with ordinary classroom equipment; use both mat pages together at actual size. Keep answer and model pages for teacher checking. Teachers move the native PowerPoint cards in ordinary Edit View while students may direct the choices. The files do not provide slideshow drag-and-drop or automatic scoring. Read-aloud prompts, pointing, drawn models, communication devices and adult recording support access while preserving each student's mathematical decisions. Gather individual fresh-task evidence before using the rehearsed quiz as feedback.
Teacher benefits
- Complete teaching sequence with selected practice and useful support/core/extension choices.
- Both operations and both digit lengths assessed through individual fresh work.
- Correct modelling of donor/recipient changes through zero.
- Native PowerPoint objects for teacher-controlled demonstrations in Edit View.
- Supplied cards, two mat pages, calculation cases and records form a complete workshop kit.
- Access through reading, pointing, models or adult recording without requiring spoken explanations or fast handwriting.
Digital product and licence
Digital download; no physical product is shipped. Teaching and quiz files require software that opens PPTX, such as Microsoft PowerPoint; use Edit View for moving the supplied native objects. PDF/JPEG files can be viewed or printed with standard software. Printable student pages are supplied as PDF, rather than editable worksheets. The editable Unit Plan assembly and TPT thumbnail are retained separately as working sources. Store licence terms apply to classroom use.
Formats, page counts and answers
Teaching PPTX: 27 slides. Quiz PPTX: 22 slides with ten questions and immediate answer feedback. Unit Plan PDF: 58 pages, including one contents page, six teacher pages and 51 resource pages. Preview PDF: 107 pages. Separate contents JPEG. Three listing-copy TXT files.
Answers follow all nine practice sheets and all three fresh assessment sheets. Workshop answer/model pages, marking guidance and a blank rubric are included. Student PDF worksheets are not editable.
